Subrata Chakravarty Biography

Early Life & Education

Subrata Chakravarty was born in Assam, India. His father worked for the Indian Armed Forces, which led to their family frequently moving throughout India. As a child, Subrata studied in government schools, graduating high school with distinction. He was also very active in music and sports.

In 1989, Subrata began his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at Gauhati University. 

Military Experience

Upon graduating from Gauhati University, Subrata decided to follow in his fathers footsteps by joining the Indian Army as Short Service Commissioned (SSC) as an officer in the rank of Captain. For five years he served in the Army Medical Corps before he was released from active service in the rank of Major. During his tenure in the Army Major, Subrata was recommended for Vishisht Seva Medal, an award to recognize “distinguished service of a high order” to all ranks of the Indian Armed forces.

Continued Education

After completing his military career, Subrata attended Delhi University, where he completed his Doctor of Medicine, Anesthesiology Residency Program in 2004. This was followed by a fellowship in labor analgesia at the iconic KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore, the largest hospital specializing in healthcare for women and children in Singapore. In 2007, Subrata moved to the University of Toronto, where he completed a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia, followed by another fellowship in clinical anesthesia.

Career

From 1995-2000 Subrata worked in the Indian Army as a physician and SSC Officer. In 2010-2019, he worked as an Anesthesiologist with Alberta Health Services in the department of Anesthesia and Pain Management. In February 2019, Subrata began working independently.
